Fall Wardrobe Refresh in Kansas City: Shop Your Signature Colors with Confidence

How to Transition Your Closet for Fall

Warm September days don’t exactly inspire us to start transitioning our closets for fall. But this is actually a wonderful time to take a look.

Start With a Late Summer Closet Inventory

A hot afternoon is the perfect time to notice what you loved wearing this summer—and what stayed on the hanger.

Take an inventory of your closet and pay attention to the pieces you reached for again and again. Those are your staples. Put them together in your closet and begin thinking about the outfits you can build around them.

Fall Colors, Textures and New Arrivals

And then there’s fall apparel!

Stores are beginning to show rich, deep warm tones alongside beautiful, vivid cool colors. We’re also seeing interesting textures and updated designs. If you’re adding something new, this is a good time to look for a staple piece in one of your Signature Colors or seasonal neutrals.

Practice Shopping Your Colors on a Free Color Field Trip

If you would like a little practice shopping for your colors, join me for my free upcoming Color Field Trip (click here for details). We’ll look at your colors together, compare options and make shopping feel empowering. And my clients are the best—you may leave with a new phone number or a coffee date in addition to finding a great piece!

Where should you prioritize your Signature Colors?

Signature Colors Belong Closest to Your Face

Start with the pieces closest to your face: blouses, tees, sweaters, scarves and jackets. These colors have the greatest impact because they create harmony with your natural coloring.

Seasonal Neutrals for Pants, Skirts and Jeans

Your deeper seasonal neutrals are wonderful for pants, skirts and jeans. They’re practical, forgiving and can be a beautiful alternative—or addition—to black.

Think of your closet as a place in transition.

Look for anchor pieces you love and can wear year after year, then mix in an interesting trend or two that gives your wardrobe a little pop. You don’t need to replace everything today. Replace things as you need to, and make each new purchase count.

When to Book a Wardrobe Edit

If that sounds like too much to sort through on your own, reach out. I’m happy to share the details of my Wardrobe Edit service.

When You're Ready for Style Analysis

And if you own pieces in your Seasonal Colors but they still don’t look or feel quite the way you hoped, you may be ready for Style Analysis.

Together, we discover the clothing designs, patterns, details and accessories that make you feel like you—gorgeous, comfortable and recognizable to yourself.

I often say:

“Color Analysis gets you on the path. Style Analysis is when the path becomes yours.”
